GRADEBOOK PLUS WINDOWS EDITION v8.1 and WINDOWS 7

Microsoft has chosen to restrict backwards compatibility with its release of Windows 7. Gradebook Plus Windows Edition v8.1 is one of the many programs affected. This problem affects software written to Microsoft specifications to be compatible to all versions of Window from Windows 95 through Windows Vista 32-bit including Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

Here is what we know as of 02/02/2010. We will update this web page as we learn more.

Windows 7 Starter Edition

Gradebook Plus Windows Edition v8.1 should be able to run in this operating system. We have not yet been able to verify this yet. If you have Windows 7 Starter Edition, please contact EMA and let us know if you were successful running Gradebook Plus.

Windows 7 Home Premium Edition

There are many users upset with Microsoft for the decision not to offer backwards compatibility with Home Premium Edition. We are hoping that either Microsoft changes its mind and offers an upgrade, or that a third party solution becomes available.

It is possible that if you download Windows Virtual PC (see below) and then install a licensed copy of Windows XP, you will be able to run Gradebook Plus Windows Edition v8.1. If you have Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Edition and a copy of Windows XP, please contact EMA and let us know if you were successful running Gradebook Plus.

Windows 7 Professional Edition and Ultimate Edition

Microsoft provides backwards compatibility by downloading software (Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC) to run older programs.. The software may be downloaded for free from http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Virtual-PC/default.aspx. Users have successfully run Gradebook Plus Windows Edition v8.1 using this software. This is similar to the solution Microsoft came up with for users of Windows Vista 64-bit operating systems by running Virtual PC 2007.
